In the context of the economic crisis, particularly the rising cost of energy resources, instability in energy markets, and heightened risks in the energy sector, improving a company’s energy efficiency and energy independence has become a cornerstone of crisis management. The purpose of the paper is to study aspects of improving energy efficiency and energy independence as the basis for crisis management in an enterprise. The content and interrelationship between the concepts of «energy efficiency» and «energy independence» of an enterprise as the basis for crisis management have been identified. ‘Energy efficiency’ relates to internal processes of energy resource utilisation and involves optimising their consumption with the aim of achieving maximum production or economic output with minimum energy expenditure. In turn, ‘energy independence’ reflects the external aspect of an enterprise’s energy supply and characterises the extent of its dependence on external energy sources, the stability of energy markets and price fluctuations. «Energy independence» does not mean a complete rejection of external energy suppliers, but encompasses: diversification of energy sources; rapid adaptability to change; alternative energy supply options; and resilience to crisis impacts. The mechanism is as follows: improving energy efficiency helps to reduce the overall consumption of energy resources, which, in turn, strengthens energy independence and enhances the enterprise’s resilience in conditions of economic instability. The paper found that «energy efficiency» and «energy independence» are interrelated yet distinct economic concepts that play a key role in ensuring the sustainable operation of enterprises in conditions of economic instability and crisis. Thus, a comprehensive combination of digital management, technical modernisation, and on-site power generation is the optimal strategy for improving energy efficiency during a crisis.
