У статті досліджено проблематику сутності криптовалюти як платіжного засобу та зазначено її ключові особливості. Проаналізовано різні підходи до визначення правової природи криптовалюти. Визначено правову природу криптовалюти крізь призму світових практик її використання. Проаналізовано можливість використання криптовалют з погляду їх спроможності виконувати основні функції грошей. Також приділено увагу відповідним установам, де можна розрахуватися криптовалютами. У висновку приділено увагу необхідності законодавчої регламентації сутності криптовалюти для подальшого ефективного еволюціонування.
